It’s officially that time of year — pumpkin spice is everywhere, your kids are debating which costume is the coolest, and face paint is flying. Whether your little one is going full glitter unicorn or zombie astronaut, Halloween magic is in the air.

But you know what’s not magical?

👻 The flu, COVID, or RSV crashing your trick-or-treat plans.

There’s nothing scarier than a fever on October 31st — so let’s make sure your house is full of candy buckets, not snot buckets.

💉 Flu Before Boo (and More!) — Who Needs What?

• Flu Vaccine → Everyone 6 months and up. Yes, even if you “never get sick.” Superheroes get shields, your immune system should too.

• COVID Vaccine → Still recommended for eligible kids & adults, especially if you’re visiting grandparents (or hugging every kid at the school parade).

• RSV Protection → New options are available for babies and pregnant parents — ask your pediatrician if your pumpkin is under 8 months old.

• And as always, practice good hand hygeine!

Vaccines don’t guarantee zero sniffles, but they hugely reduce “Halloween in bed” level illness.

🧺 Build Your Boo-B-Gone Basket (a.k.a. Sick Day Kit)

Stock this before someone wakes up sounding like a haunted accordion:

✔ Digital thermometer (and batteries!)
✔ Age-appropriate fever reducer (with dosing chart taped on!)
✔ Saline spray + bulb suction for littles
✔ Humidifier
✔ Tissues, hand sanitizer, hydration drinks

Trust me — you do not want to be hunting for Tylenol at midnight with a feverish K pop demon slayer.

🚩 When to Call the Doctor (Scary Version)

Don’t wait if you see:

• Fever in babies under 3 months (100.4°F or higher)

• Fast breathing / ribs pulling in / wheezing like a tiny accordion

• Barely drinking / no wet diapers or decreased pee

• Fever lasting >3 days or over 104°F

• Rash + fever (spooky combo)

• Anything else that worries you - trust your own intuition!
